Earthy toned smokey eyes

I learned how to do this makeup look from this tutorial:

A bit of a lengthy process, but it turned out to be worth the work. :D

What's in my box?

A few days ago, I was watching this video called "What's in my bag?" on YouTube about a girl showing off what she had in her purse. So I thought it would be fun to show you my makeup box and most of the stuff that's always in it.
My makeup box - I got it for Christmas a few years ago. Yes, I put the stickers on it.

Mostly my eye makeup and makeup brushes; concealer stick, eye makeup remover lotion, and cotton swabs are there too.

This is just my foundation, pressed powder, blush and various lipsticks I use. And of course, I have a bottle of my favorite perfume called Chantilly.

21 August 2016

This time I did the Carrie prom inspired look for the 2nd time ever. The last time I did it was early this summer as you probably guessed from a previous post. It looks better this time around because I have shorter hair and it's more curlier...even without having to put stuff in it like I did the last time I did this look. :)

2 keys to a good makeup look

Makeup is a lot of fun to experiment with. Whether a person's an amateur at it or a professional makeup artist, I've learned from various users on YouTube that there are 2 keys to having a great makeup look...

  • Self-confidence
  • Practice
You may wonder what having good self-confidence has to do with makeup. And the answer is more than you'd like to think.
Whether you're using makeup as just a day-to-day routine to look nice, going to a party, as a costume, or even if you're a professional makeup artist in films, self-confidence is a big deal! If you're happy and feeling comfortable with your makeup look, that's what's important. Makeup is totally not all about covering anything that looks unsightly because let's just face it, we all have imperfections that no amount of makeup could ever cover up.
How you use the makeup is totally up to you. You just can't rely on other people's opinions of how you look. If you're always doing that, then no, you're really not going to look good wearing makeup.
So that's why self-confidence is key. Now on to practice.
Nobody's perfect, we all know that. Sometimes it just takes a few tries to get that eyeliner just right, or (if you're a fan of these) how to properly place false eyelashes onto your natural lashes. And it can even take a few tries to discover what kind of foundation will work for you. Point is, watch and observe whether it's somebody on YouTube doing a makeup tutorial or even a female family member of yours how they do looks and try them on yourself. Take risks to see what works for you and always remember: Practice does indeed make perfect. :)

Peacock inspired makeup look

Here's what I did:

  • I started from my outer eye corner and met in the middle with purple eye shadow and then went from the inner corner and met in the middle with the green.
  • On the bottom lids I used light blue shadow.
  • Very light blush.
  • Tinted pink lip balm.
Note: You really don't want to get too crazy with color on the lips or cheeks because the shadow is vivid enough as it is.

Mermaid inspired makeup

Inspired by a mermaid. Here's how I did it...

  • Apply foundation, concealer, and set with pressed powder.
  • Use light blue eye shadow and apply some purple at the ends of your outer eye corners.
  • Apply eyeliner on top and bottom lids and use a little white eyeliner on your bottom watering line.
  • Blush
  • Red lipstick
Note: Style hair in waves and wear an attractive accessory such as earrings or a necklace.

1 June 2016 Makeup Look

I did a bit of a Cleopatra style by applying eyeliner on both the bottom and top lids.

6th August 2016

For this look, I just used foundation, blue eye shadow, eyeliner, blush, and some pale pink lipstick. I found using clear gloss first and then applying the lipstick looked better b/c just the lipstick itself made me look like I ate a bunch of paste. lol So I mellowed the color down by applying gloss first and then blotting it after applying the lipstick. :)

Lon Chaney Phantom Inspired Makeup

I love Lon Chaney! He had such an amazing talent at doing his own makeup. That is where I got the idea for doing this look. It has elements based on his character (the Phantom) in it.

I tested out foundation and some pressed powder on my hand to see what would give me the best pale look possible. I decided to go along with the pressed powder. Then I used concealer stick as eye primer and applied eyeliner to my top and bottom lids and blended it. (Applying and blending eyeliner on the bottom lids gives the "dead man's eyes" effect)

Considering the fact that in the movie, Lon's face had a greenish tint to it, I used green eye shadow on my eyelids. I didn't use blush or even worry about using concealer for any imperfections because in the story, the Phantom's face was VERY far from perfect. However, I did use some concealer and Chapstick on my lips b/c in the movie, Lon's lips were very pale and almost invisible.

Sissy Spacek Carrie Inspired Makeup

Since we'd been having hot weather at the time, I decided to pick out a pink tank top and do a prom makeup look inspired by Sissy Spacek's in the movie Carrie.
Now, she didn't do a very dramatic look...it was nice and natural looking, which I liked. If I had the chance to go back in time and attend a high school prom, I would definitely do this kind of look with my makeup.
Here's what I did:

  • I applied my foundation and set it with pressed powder, then used some concealer stick as eye primer. Personally, I think it works just as well.
  • Then I applied pink eye shadow on my lids and blended in some beige eye shadow in the creases.
  • I applied mascara, a little blush, and some pale pink lipstick. (I included some clear gloss with the lipstick to avoid looking like I just ate paste)
  • And of course, I set my hair with curl cream and wore a necklace to make the look really stand out. :)
